Signals That Someone Needs Help

Choosing an Adult Day program may be an effective solution to getting the care you need for a loved one. The following are indicators that a person may benefit from an adult day program. If ANY of them are true, consider an adult day program.
  • Assistance is needed with at least one of the following activities: bathing, dressing, walking, toileting, or eating.

  • A chronic medical condition requires ongoing monitoring or therapy.

  • A recent stroke or illness has caused a need for rehabilitation.

  • You worry that a fall is likely without constant supervision.

  • Driving skills are unsafe, or driving has been suspended altogether due to poor vision, paralysis, poor judgment or memory problems.

  • Professional or informal home care must be scheduled for times a caregiver will be away from home.

  • Personal grooming has deteriorated or is inconsistent.

  • Frightening kitchen accidents have occurred in the past few months.

  • Meals are forgotten or skipped, or assistance is needed with meal preparation.

  • Medications are being taken improperly (missed or incorrect doses).

  • Common phone numbers are forgotten, or assistance is needed in making appointments by phone.

  • Memory lapses are frequent; previous conversations are not remembered.

  • Activities and social interaction are avoided, or quickly lead to fatigue.

  • Bills are often unpaid or lost entirely.
