Different Kinds of Adult Day Programs
No two families are alike; and no two Adult Day Service programs are identical. This variety increases the likelihood of finding a program that beautifully matches your needs. To help sort through the wide array of services and types of programs available to you, it helps to first identify whether your needs are social or medical/social.
A person with social needs is someone who may be isolated at home, lonely for contact with others and for the stimulation of interesting activities. Social Day programs and Adult Day Care programs meet these types of needs wonderfully. Such programs provide engaging social and recreational activities, companionship, meals and supervision. In addition, Adult Day Care programs provide personal care.
A person with medical/social needs may have the above needs, but, in addition, require more intensive health, therapeutic and social services. These types of services are effectively provided by Adult Day Health Care programs and Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
Some social and medical/social programs specialize in caring for people with memory loss, Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias. They have a smaller ratio of people attending the program to staff members, and staff members are specially trained to understand and work with people living with dementia of all kinds.
