An Affordable Choice

Adult Day Services provide care at a fraction of the cost of nursing home, home care, or assisted living alternatives. This is possible because adult day providers offer group care at a single site, with a ratio of one caregiver to every 6 participants (on average). Adult day programs partner with you and your family, supplying care and coverage during the day, when many family members must be at work.

Some people qualify to have their adult day program paid for in full. For those who pay out-of-pocket, Adult Day Services here in Alameda County start at around $30 a day for adult day care, and about $75 a day for Adult Day Health Care (ADHC). Costs vary according to the level of care provided, which is different at different types of programs. In estimating your cost, first determine if the person receiving care has any of the following in place - or qualifies for -- Medi-Cal, Medicare, private health insurance, or long-term care insurance. Then see Cost & Payment Options for more information.

A combination of family care and an adult day program can be a creative and cost-effective way to get the best care possible.

Chart of Daily Cost of Traditional vs. Community Care. Adult Day services are 6 to 96 dollars a day; Home Care is 80 to 200 a day; Assisted Living is 66 to 166; Nursing Homes are 150 to 300 per day.
