Help Paying For Care
If paying for an adult day program concerns you, consider the following:
- All of the programs in Alameda County operate as non-profit organizations. They really want to help you if they can. Let them know this is an issue for you, as there may be a scholarship available to reduce your cost.
- Attending an adult day program one or two days a week, rather than 5 days a week, is an option at both adult day care and adult day health care programs.
- The Adult Day Services Network administers a subsidy program designed to assist caregivers that is made available through adult day programs. You need not qualify as "low income" by government standards to qualify for these funds.
- All day care programs help people to remain living at home, actively preventing premature and inappropriate placement in nursing homes. This in itself can result in huge cost savings.
- Compared to in-home care, adult day programs are usually less expensive and more effective at alleviating isolation, encouraging appropriate exercise and offering adequate intellectual challenges to maintain participants' mental as well as physical health.
