Community Education

A recent survey found that 40% of Bay Area residents eligible for adult day services do not know that they exist. The Network is committed to changing this, and as such all community education sessions and materials are provided free of charge.

Day-time Care for Seniors
An informal, audience-driven discussion of the full range of choices in adult day programs in Alameda County, and caregivers' most frequently asked questions.
45 minutes

  • What goes on at a day program? What do they do?
  • What sorts of people go to these programs?
  • What does it cost to attend a program? Will Medi-Cal pay for this? Medicare? Long-term care insurance?
  • What are the benefits for participants? For caregivers?
  • How does transportation work? Meals? Medications?
  • What about dementia? What about incontinence?
  • Can someone attend an adult day program just a few days of the week? If they do, can they still have an IHSS worker come to the house on the other days?

Getting Help When You Need It

Loaded with information and encouragement, this is an informational AND skill-building session, a very efficient way to gain both working knowledge of available services and begin to overcome limiting beliefs that make it difficult to accept help.

  • Kinds of help available, by price tag / Handouts
  • The three steps to getting the help you need, when you need it
  • Step One: Outline your specific needs / Worksheet
  • Step Two: Ask for help / Exercise
  • Step Three: R & R -- That is: "Relinquish" control and "Refine" your request / Exercise
